Former police chief says civil administration attempting to weaken police authority in J&K

Former Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid Sunday claimed that civil administration is repeatedly attempting to undermine the authority of Jammu Kashmir Police.

Vaid said that the recent transfer order of Deputy Superintendent of Police personnel by the Home Department was an attempt to weaken the authority of Jammu Kashmir Police.

He said it was the domain of Jammu Kashmir Police Chief to issue the transfer of DSPs.

SP Vaid as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust in a series of tweets while expressing displeasure said that the (transfer) order of DySPs issued by the Home Department instead of the DGP J&K is an attempt to weaken the authority of J&K Police Chief, Dilbag Singh & the J&K Police Department.

“Since inception, the power to transfer DSP was with the police chief. Repeated attempts by Civil administration to weaken the authority of Police Headquarters & Police Chief has a detrimental effect on the morale of rank & file J&K Police.”

Vaid further said that earlier recruitment of Sub-Inspectors was taken away from Police headquarters & given to a civilian body, SSRB which not only bungled & landed in controversies
of scams of a highly transparent recruitment process held once by Police HQ.

“Jammu Kashmir Police have been facing an extraordinary situation for decades & nothing should be done to weaken the police department & its Chief,” Vaid said and tagged Union Home Minister and J&K LG stating this needs their attention.
