Former Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq has raised concerns about the uncertainties and short-sightedness in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stating how players can feel secure and build their international careers in such an unstable environment.
“If you look at the policies of the board, leave alone foreign coaches, I don’t think even our local coaches want to work with the PCB,” said Misbah, who is currently coaching the Hyderabad franchise in the Sindh Premier League.
“This haphazard approach discourages not just foreign coaches, but even our local talent,” he stated to media in Karachi. “Pakistan cricket needs long-term plans for management, selection, and player development. Unfortunately, everything changes with every new board head.”
He highlighted the impact of changes in board leadership on the overall structure and stability within the team.
“How can players feel secure and establish themselves in the national team if they are not sure about what is happening in the board?” questioned Misbah, calling for a more systematic approach.
Regarding the policy of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players participating in foreign leagues, Misbah suggested a situation-based policy, allowing players to play in foreign leagues during their free periods. However, he acknowledged that granting NOCs before important events, such as the World Cup, was a mistake.
Misbah concluded by affirming that the interest in Test cricket would never diminish, as it remains the pinnacle of the sport, while acknowledging the impact of T20 cricket on the popularity of One Day Internationals (ODIs).
