Handwara, March 02 :  – A forest fire erupted in compartments 01 and 02 of the Rajwar Forest Range, posing a significant threat to the biodiversity and natural resources of the area. The fire, which spread rapidly due to dry weather conditions, was successfully brought under control through a joint effort by various departments and local authorities.

The operation was spearheaded by the Forest Department under the leadership of Block Officer Ab Qayoom and Beat Guard Mudasir Ah, with crucial support from the Social Forestry Department led by Naseer Ah Wani. The Forest Protection Department also played a key role in containing the blaze and preventing further destruction.

Additionally, the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) station in Handwara responded promptly, reaching the affected site in record time. Their swift action and firefighting expertise significantly contributed to controlling the flames before they could cause extensive damage.

Local volunteers and concerned citizens also played a vital role in assisting officials during the operation. Their dedication and prompt response underscore the community’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s forests and wildlife.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire or illegal activities that could endanger the forest. Preventive measures are being reinforced to mitigate the risk of future incidents. Notably, before Eid, the Executive Magistrate issued a notice stating that no permissions would be granted for the use of certain items inside the forest. However, it has been observed that people are not adhering to these orders.

The successful containment of the fire highlights the importance of coordinated efforts between government agencies and local communities in preserving the environment. Further assessments will be conducted to evaluate any damage to the ecosystem, and necessary restoration steps will be taken accordingly.
