A 21-year-old man from Raj Nagar, Ghaziabad, named Ayush Goel, passed away on Tuesday due to multi-organ failure caused by dengue shock syndrome. He had been admitted to a private hospital on July 30 after returning from a trip to Haridwar on July 27, during which he experienced fever. The health department officials in the district confirmed this as the first dengue-related death in the current season.

Dr. Rakesh Gupta, the district surveillance officer, stated that Ayush Goel tested positive for dengue on July 31 and succumbed to the illness on Tuesday. The officials in Ghaziabad reported 29 dengue cases until Tuesday, with 901 cases in 2022, 1,238 in 2021, 15 in 2020, 88 in 2019, and 68 in 2018.

In response to the situation, the authorities have initiated anti-larvae sprays in vulnerable areas like Shipra Sun City, Vijay Nagar, Daulatpura, Kanawani, Shashtri Nagar, Kaushambi, Vaishali, and Govindpuram. Disinfectant sprays have also been conducted in households near Ayush Goel’s residence in Raj Nagar. Additionally, the district’s MMG District Hospital and Sanjay Nagar Combined District Hospital will reserve ten beds each for dengue patients.

Meanwhile, Delhi has witnessed a surge in dengue cases, with 56 new cases reported in the last week. The total number of cases in Delhi reached a five-year high, with 243 cases reported until July 28.

The Gautam Budh Nagar district administration is also taking proactive measures to address the threat of dengue and malaria in areas and villages affected by recent flooding caused by the overflowing Hindon and Yamuna rivers.
