A man’s body was recovered in a suspicious condition near his home in north Kashmir’s Sopore, police said yesterday.

He has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir of Duroo, Sopore.

Quoting an official, a news agency reported that the body has been recovered under mysterious conditions from the orchards in Duroo even as the police has started an investigation into the matter.

Mir, who has left behind five children: three daughters and two sons, went missing yesterday following which his family informed the police who subsequently launched a search operation, said the deceased’s brother Mohammed Rafi.

Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore, Divya while speaking to the reporters said that they received a missing complaint from family following which multiple search teams were formed led by SDPO Sopore, SHO Sopore and DO Warpora.

The searches were conducted whole night and the body was recovered this morning near the deceased’s home, she said, adding that the body had multiple head injuries.

“During the course of investigations, two suspects were picked up for questioning and are currently under custody,” SSP said.

While refuting any terror angle, the SSP said that preliminary investigations suggest that it is a case of personal enmity.

“Further investigations are going on,” the SSP added.

The medico-legal formalities are don and the body has been handed over to the family for last rites, an official said.
