Farmers protest: Seventh death reported, farmers hold rail roko protests in Punjab

Baldev Singh, a protesting farmer, died on Monday due to breathing issues while receiving treatment at Rajindra Hospital. This marks the seventh farmer death in the last 26 days of the ongoing farmers’ protest.

Meanwhile, farmers conducted a four-hour rail roko at 85 locations in Punjab, following a call from Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) on Sunday.

In Haryana, police detained several farmers in Dabwali and Ellenabad en route to protest sites, a situation mirrored in Dausa, Rajasthan, as reported by KMM. The farmers were released later in the evening.

The protestors are demanding a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP), implementation of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pension for farmers and farm laborers, farm debt waiver, withdrawal of police cases against protesting farmers, justice for victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence, reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation for families of farmers who died during the previous agitation in 2020-21.
