Faculty of Nursing, Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh, observed World Leprosy Day on January 30, 2023, at District Hospital Fatehgarh Sahib with the collaboration of the Himalayan Foundation (Himalayan Club Trust). The theme for World Leprosy Day 2023 was “Act Now, End Leprosy.” Students of B.Sc. Nursing 3rd year and GNM 1st year provided awareness to people regarding leprosy through a rally. This rally revealed that it is a type of infection that spreads slowly. It may have an impact on the nose lining, skin, eyes, and nerves.
Students also visited Khanna Kusht Ashram and Shiv Mandir Kusht Ashram Sirhind (Fatehgarh Sahib). Students distributed food items as well as gave donations of Rs. 5,100 to each Kusht Ashram. The event coordinators were Professor Prabhjot Singh and Ms. Honey Hasteer, a nursing tutor. The event was conducted under the guidance and support of Prof. Lovesampuranjot Kaur, officiating principal, faculty of nursing, Desh Bhagat University. The honorable chancellor of Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh appreciated the work of the students and urged them to take their efforts to reach more people. He said that we can end this disease only through awareness.
