Elderly Man Dies in Tragic fire breaks out in Delhi

An 85-year-old man named Sadhan Chander lost his life in a tragic fire that erupted on Friday night in a three-bedroom flat located in Dwarka, west Delhi.

According to the police, Chander was alone at home while his family was away at the local market during the incident. Despite rescue efforts, he suffered severe burns and was declared dead upon reaching the hospital.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), M Harsha Vardhan, stated that as there is no indication of foul play, no police case has been registered yet, and inquest proceedings have been initiated. The fire department suspects that a short-circuit in the air-conditioner may have been the cause.

Sadhan Chander, a retired employee of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), resided in the seventh-floor flat, owned by his daughter and son-in-law, who both retired from the telecom sector.

The fire not only ravaged their flat but also spread to the apartment above, resulting in damages to the belongings of its occupants. It took the fire brigade over an hour to bring the blaze under control, but unfortunately, the seventh-floor flat was completely destroyed.

To determine the exact cause of the fire, a forensic team has been called to the scene.
