Executive Councilor, Animal Husbandry, LAHDC, Kargil, Aga Syed Mehdi Fazily today flagged off 49 progressive sheep and goat breeders of Kargil district for exposure tour within UT Ladakh under National Livestock Mission (NLM).
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Chief Agriculture Officer, Executive Officer, MC Kargil, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr Niyaz ul Hassanain, Councilor Suru, doctors of Animal and Sheep Husbandry and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
EC Fazily congratulated the department for organizing such exposure tours to the progressive farmers/breeders and urged the breeders to take benefit of such tours.
The EC also highlighted the schemes of various subsidy components of the Council and the department and hoped to organize such tours outside the UT for the welfare of the breeders.
Earlier, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Kargil Dr Niyaz-ul-Hassanain informed that the tour aims to provide farmers best practices being adopted in Leh and pastoral practices used by the nomadic communities.
He informed that the breeders will visit the top institutes such as Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Pashmina Processing Unit Upshi, Russian Merino Farm Matho, Changlook Farm Stagna, Fish Farm Chuchot, Cattle Breeding Farm, Agriculture Unit Agling, Milk Plant, Agriculture Farm Leh etc.
Pertinently, the department has organized the five-day exposure tour as part of a mega program under the NLM to promote livestock farming for improving the livelihood of the breeders.
