The officer breathed his last on the way to DMC Ludhiana in Punjab.

Officials said, “DySP Prashant Sharma, posted in CBI Jammu, was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H), Jammu after he sustained injuries in an accident late Friday night. The accident occurred when his motorcycle skidded off the road at Jewel.”

DySP Prashant, 52, son of Dharam Pal Sharma of Paloura, Jammu, was on his way back home when the accident occurred.

On 15 November 2023, 39 people died and 17 more were injured when the driver of a passenger bus lost control and the vehicle plunged into a 300–400 ft (91–122 m) deep gorge in the hilly area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The bus, which had registration number JK02CN-6555, was carrying 54 passengers, a driver and a conductor, when it plunged from the Batote-Kishtwar national highway near Trungal-Assar and fell 300–400 feet (91–122 metres) down a gorge. The bus landed on a disused road, 2.5 miles (4 km) from Rajgarh. The bus was over its 38 passenger capacity, which may have contributed to the driver being unable to negotiate the tight turn

As per a report, J&K ranked second across India in the tally of 10,000 vehicle accidents in this period with an average of 900 deaths a year. A total of 4,165 accidents were reported up to August last year. Tragically, 580 individuals (till the end of this year, the number is expected to cross 1,000) lost their lives, and 5,565 others sustained injuries in these incidents. The fatality rate is higher than Delhi, Maharashtra.
