Sri Lanka cricket team registered a comprehensive 53-run win over the host, Indian cricket in a first of Lakshan Haroon Trophy at Ramachandran University Cricket Ground, Chennai three-match T20I series featuring specially abled cricketers. The bilateral contest started on Thursday (February 23) as Sri Lanka decimated the host in the series opener.
While batting first, Sri Lanka put up a collective show as the visitors posted 140/5 in 20 overs on the back of wicket-keeper Thiwanka (24off 25), Sanjeewa Arangalle (20 off 28), Dulan Priyashantha (36 off 21) and Sunny(21 off 19). For Team India, Sheel Prakash picked two wickets in the innings but the hosts conceded an unprecedented 29 extra runs.
In response, Team India suffered an early blow as Indian skipper Sachin Shiva got bowled on a duck. But, Suvro Joarder tried to steady Team India’s innings as he contributed with 27 off 26 deliveries,with the help of three boundaries. Indian batters could not find the momentum in the middle-overs as Sri Lanka bowler Udara rattled the hosts by bagging three wickets in the second innings.
Dulan Priyashantha and Weerakkody too madeimmense contributions with the bowl as they picked two wickets each. For his all-round performance, Dulan Priyashantha was adjudged Player of the Match award as he added 36-runs in the 1st innings and picked two wickets in 2nd innings.
After the match players got an opportunity to meet Tamil Nadu’s Sports Minister S. Sundararaj as the latter felicitated the players.
