Drone Attack Kills 150 Rohingya Fleeing Violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State

At least 150 civilians from Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslim minority are believed to have been killed this week in an artillery and drone attack in the western state of Rakhine. The attack targeted Rohingya civilians who were trying to escape intense fighting in Maungdaw town by crossing the Naf River into Bangladesh.

While the Arakan Army, a key force in the resistance against Myanmar’s military rule and the military wing of Rakhine’s ethnic group, has denied responsibility for the assault, suspicions persist among survivors. The international medical organization Doctors Without Borders reported that they have been treating increasing numbers of Rohingya with violence-related injuries who managed to flee to Bangladesh in the past week.
