Ayushmann Khurrana’s hopes are riding high on the upcoming release, the comedy “Dream Girl 2,” directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa. According to a report from koimoi.com, the movie is anticipated to make around ₹9-10 crore on its opening day, which falls on Friday, August 25. Notably, the film has already secured a substantial number of advance booking tickets, totaling 26,550 across major multiplex chains.

Esteemed film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared a breakdown of the pre-sold tickets for “Dream Girl 2” through PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis on Twitter.

The projected opening for “Dream Girl 2” is expected to fall within the ₹9-10 crore range. If this prediction holds true, it would mark Ayushmann’s most successful opening in the post-pandemic era. Before the pandemic, his films consistently achieved such numbers. The original “Dream Girl” from 2019 opened at ₹10.05 crore, marking Ayushmann’s previous highest opening.

This was followed by “Bala,” a social comedy directed by Amar Kaushik, which opened later in the same year at ₹10.15 crore. “Bala” still stands as Ayushmann’s top opening to date. His final film before the pandemic, the 2020 romantic comedy “Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan” directed by Hitesh Kewalya, opened at ₹9.55 crore. This film was also a sequel, following his 2017 release “Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.”

Prior to “Dream Girl,” Ayushmann’s films typically began with modest openings but gained momentum due to strong word-of-mouth and compelling content. This trend continued after the pandemic, with films like Abhishek Kapoor’s 2021 romantic comedy “Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui” ( ₹3.75 crore), Anubhav Sinha’s 2022 thriller “Anek” ( ₹1.77 crore), Anubhuti Kashyap’s social comedy “Doctor G” ( ₹3.87 crore), and Anirudh Iyer’s “An Action Hero” ( ₹1.31 crore), his lowest recent opening. It’s worth noting that “An Action Hero” developed a substantial following upon its eventual release on Netflix India.

“Dream Girl 2” features Ananya Panday, Vijay Raaz, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Manjot Singh, Annu Kapoor, and Seema Pahwa among others. The film is produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures.
