District Magistrate Reasi today called for encouraging information sharing by the public about the Drug Peddlers and those struggling with addiction.
Chairing the monthly NCORD meeting here, she directed the concerned to circulate the dedicated helpline number 9070907017 among the public through social media, at Police Public meetings, Thana Diwas, Writing on the Government Buildings, especially on Panchayat Ghars, Patwar Khanas, Schools and Colleges to enable the public to share any information with regard to the Drug abuse.
The Senior Superintendent apprised that one person has been detained under PIT NDPS Act, 3 FIRs have been registered against drug peddlers and 45 awareness camps were conducted during the month of February 2023 to educate the people about the ill effects of the drugs.
The Chief Education Officer Reasi and Principal Degree Colleges also furnished the details of the awareness programmes organised under Nasha Mukt campaign in their respective institutions.
The efforts made by the Agriculture, Excise and Taxation and Revenue Departments in monitoring the illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis in the district were also discussed.
The District Magistrate directed Principals of Degree colleges, Polytechnic College and Chief Education officer Reasi to direct the staff to regularly monitor the behaviour of the students and ensure that no student who has left the institution roam again without any reason and if any such student(s) are found the matter be immediately brought to the nearest Police Station in a secret way.
The motive is to conduct counselling of the drug victim and take strict penal action against the drug peddlers so as to eradicate this menace from the society. She directed that counselling in the District Hospital shall be done on every Saturday and at CHC Katra on Thursday.
All the committee members of the NCORD shall work in a co-ordinated way for exchange of information of the drug peddlers/victims, illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis and counselling of drug victims and conducting maximum awareness programmes regarding drug menace.
The meeting was attended by Amit Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Abdul Star, Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi and all the members of the District level NCORD Committee.
