The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) met under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Vishesh Mahajan and Senior Superintendent of Police, Abdul Qayoom to review road safety measures in the district.
The committee decided that e-rikshaws recently introduced in the district shall ply in all towns and other areas. Executing agencies have been asked to install speed limit signages and glow sign boards on all roads.
General Manager, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) informed that a tender for filling potholes has been floated and work will start soon. The Chairman directed all executing agencies, including GREF authorities, to remove encroachments on their roads and submit a compliance report.
The committee discussed previous directions regarding the installation of CCTV cameras at various locations for better surveillance and traffic management. Stakeholders were asked to take up the matter with their higher authorities for allotment of funds for CCTV cameras. The committee also decided to construct toilets at major bus stops for the convenience of the public.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kuldeep Singh informed the committee that a booklet on road safety and morality has been finalised and will be sent to the Education Department for circulation in schools. The booklet is designed to teach students about traffic rules and moral values. He also informed that Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD) training has been conducted in the district. The committee also discussed Road Safety funds.
