Distribution camp of assistive devices held at Leh

To enhance the outreach of the Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) scheme, a distribution camp of assistive devices for the PWD (Persons with disabilities) beneficiaries were held at Nari Niketan Leh today. Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department Leh organised the event.

Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh, Tsering Angchuk was present as the chief guest. Chief Planning Officer, Tsewang Gyalson was the guest of honor.

Dy Chairman, Tsering Angchuk while speaking at the event, mentioned that the collaboration of ALIMCO and the Social Welfare Department has been very beneficial. He stressed the need to conduct assessment camps in the villages for the convenience of the PwDs. Further, he requested the beneficiaries to come forward and speak more about their needs so that devices are improved accordingly as per need and requirement. He also expressed his gratitude to the concerned departments for organizing such camps.

Welcoming the guests, District Social Welfare Officer, Nilza Angmo, informed that ALIMCO is an undertaking of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. She mentioned that beneficiaries can avail of the devices for free once the income criteria are met. She also informed that a sub-unit (Regional Rehabilitation Centre) of the ALIMCO office will be set up at District Social and Tribal Welfare (DS&TW) Office soon so that beneficiaries can avail of the devices anytime. Additionally, she spoke about the four-day assessment camps that were done at the block level in the month of April.

Later, assistive devices were distributed to 98 beneficiaries who were assessed during the camps earlier in April. The event aimed to provide assistive devices such as hearing aid, prostheses, and rehabilitation aid like WheelChairs, Crutches, Tri Wheelers for free of cost to the intended beneficiaries.
