The winter chill has already set in across the national capital, with Delhi’s minimum temperature falling to the 9°C range so far this week — about 3°C below the average for this time of the year. But as if this wasn’t cold enough, it looks like Delhiites may have to brace for a further drop in temperatures later this week.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional met centre in New Delhi, the minimum temperatures all over Northwest India are expected to gradually fall by about 2°C over the next three nights.
In Delhi, the night-time temperature’s lowest points on Wednesday and Thursday (November 23-24) will be around 9°C, but they will dip further down to 8°C from Friday to next Monday (November 25-28).
The last time Delhi residents witnessed such cold weather in November was back in 2020, when the minimum temperatures dropped as low as 6.3°C. In November 2021 and 2022 (so far), the mercury has failed to go below the 8.9°C mark.
As for the daytime temperatures this week, they will likely max out at 27°C for the next two days (November 22-23) and drop to 26°C for the subsequent five (November 24-28).
Along with the falling temperatures, the wind speeds in Delhi will also undergo a downward trend as we get closer to the weekend. Misty mornings and dry days shall also prevail throughout this forecast period.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s overall AQI, which stands at a ‘poor’ 256 as of Tuesday morning, is expected to undergo slight improvement on Wednesday, SAFAR predicts. But the forecasted cold and calm conditions could spell bad news for the landlocked capital, as they may trap pollutants and effectively play a role in worsening Delhi’s air quality later this week.
