Delhi receives rain with thunderstorms, swept by strong winds

Delhi received a fresh spell of rain with thunderstorms and strong winds on Thursday. The rain will continue for the next few hours, the weather department said.

With rain, the minimum temperature in Delhi on Thursday settled at 17.8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius. The weather department, which blamed the western disturbances for the showers, had issued a yellow alert for Friday. Very light rainfall is likely on Saturday as well.

Western disturbances over northwest India led to rain and hail in several parts of the region, including Delhi, over the last week. A western disturbance is an area of low pressure that brings sudden showers and fog.

Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of a few places of New Delhi and South Delhi, the IMD said, adding strong winds may damage standing crops.
