Delhi Police registers FIRs over sexual harassment allegations against WFI chief

Delhi Police registers FIRs: The Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR over sexual harassment allegations levelled by several women wrestlers against The Delhi Police said that two FIRs have been registered at Connaught Place police station. The first one pertains to allegations levelled by a minor victim which has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning outraging of modesty etc.The second FIR has been registered for carrying out comprehensive investigations into the complaints tendered by other adult complainants under relevant sections pertaining to outraging of modesty.This comes after  India’s top wrestlers such as Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik intensified their protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and asserted that they won’t leave the protest site at Jantar Mantar in Delhi Seven women wrestlers had also moved the Supreme Court alleging non-registration of an FIR on their sexual harassment allegations against WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. In response to the plea, the Supreme Court had issued notices to the Delhi government and others, saying these are “serious allegations” requiring its consideration On Friday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Delhi Police, told a bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha that “We have decided to register an FIR. It will be registered today,” Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court bench.
