The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is currently in the process of conducting trials for a new phone-based QR code ticketing technology. This means that the commuters will no longer have to stand in long queues to get tokens to travel, they can do so simply by using their mobile phones. According to officials, the application for this technology is ready for use, and they plan to launch it by the end of June after completing the final testing phase,
As a first step, DMRC is conducting internal trials of the new technology. These trials involve various tests, including regression tests, to ensure that the system functions smoothly and can generate QR code tickets without any issues. The aim is to identify and resolve any potential obstacles before making the technology available to passengers. Anuj Dayal, the principal executive director of corporate communications at DMRC, stated that they hope to introduce this facility by the end of the month.
To generate e-tickets using the new QR code technology, commuters will need to use the Delhi Metro Rail app. The app allows users to make payments through multiple options. Once the payment is complete, the app will generate a QR code. Commuters can simply place their phones in front of the QR code scanner at the automatic fare collection (AFC) gates in order to gain entry to the Metro station.
