The sound of a loud explosion was heard in Prashant Vihar in Delhi’s Rohini on Sunday. Following the loud noise, plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from a spot near the CRPF Public School in Rohini, with a video also surfacing online. The sound came from around the school’s wall and the windows of the nearby vehicles were shattered due to the explosion, visuals from the spot showed. A white powder-like substance was found near the wall of the school after the entire area was cordoned off by the police. There are several shops near the school’s wall and the loud sound could be due to a cylinder blast, sources said. While the exact cause behind the explosion is yet to be ascertained, no injuries have been reported yet.
Several videos were obtained by India Today, which show the extent of damage caused to shops near the school due to the impact of the explosion. The videos show hoardings of the shops scattered on the roads following the explosion.
“The only possibilities which we think of are a cylinder blast or a building collapse. There was a big cloud of smoke here which stayed for a good 10 minutes. The glass of the shops here has broken, and the hoardings have been displaced,” an eyewitness said.
