Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert across five north Indian states, predicting fresh rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Strong Western disturbances active over north India have resulted in rainfall and hail storms in the plains and the hill state of Himachal Pradesh.

According to the IMD, two Western disturbances — a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and its neighbourhood, south Pakistan, and an induced cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan — have triggered a significant drop in mercury.

Weather Update: A day after heavy rain lashed many parts of Delhi, the maximum temperature settled at 28.3 degrees Celsius, 11 notches below normal on Tuesday. The minimum temperature settled at 19.3 degrees Celsius.

The weather system also affected Chandigarh, which reported a drop of nearly 10 degrees Celsius in May, the lowest in the past 36 years. The average temperature in Chandigarh usually hovers around 40 degrees Celsius during May. On April 17, the Mercury touched 40 degrees Celsius but it dropped to 30.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

Fresh rainfall on Monday further dropped the temperature to 25.7 degrees Celsius.
