A meeting to review the preparations regarding different programmes to be held under the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’, campaign was held today under the chairpersonship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr Basharat Qayoom at Circuit House, Pulwama.

At the outset, DC highlighted the importance of ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign and said that it aims to foster a sense of unity and pride across all sections of society, celebrating India’s rich heritage and patriotic spirit, and one of the hallmarks of the concluding event on the Independence Day will be paying tribute to the ‘Veers’ (martyrs) through ceremonies at all levels across the district.

He said at the Panchayat level under ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ program, memorial plaques would be placed at Amrit Sarovars and panchayat Ghars in the memory of the national heroes of the country.

Assistant Commissioner Development Pulwama, Dr Farhat briefed the meeting about different themes under the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign, and gave a detailed outline of the events to be held in connection with it to all officers present.

During the meeting, it was decided that five programmes will be held at each Panchayat and Block between 9th August to 15th August under the theme “Meri Maati Mera Desh”. Further it was elaborated upon the preparations to be carried out by various stake holders under the campaign.

Around 130 Amrit Sarovars have been developed in various panchayats across the district where Memorial Plaques will be installed. For remaining Panchayats, the DC directed Block Development Officers to identify suitable buildings for erecting Memorials.

Dr Basharat asked both the SSPs to prepare panchayat wise the list of Veers, freedom fighters and defence personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of nation and freedom.

It was further informed that Maati-Yatras from Panchayats will be taken to blocks where from it would be collected in an earthen urns for forward journey to New Delhi by a youth from each block for construction of the National Memorial at Kartavya Path.

The Assistant Commissioner Development was directed to make all necessary arrangements for Mitti-Yatra in all blocks. Programme, Manager NRLM was directed to provide sufficient number of Earthen Pots and Mitti Diyas through SHGs.

It was also informed that at least 75 Plant saplings will be planted in each Panchayat and ward of the district, for which DC asked the DFO Social Forestry Pulwama to provide these saplings to Block Development Officers as required and directed that plantation shall be carried out at protected locations jointly identified by BDO and CEO.

DYS&SO was directed to prepare mementos and felicitation plaques for the families of defence/ security personnel who have sacrificed their lives for the nation. The felicitation shall be done as per the local customs and traditions.

The DC instructed Principal Degree Colleges and CEO Pulwama to organise various events of Essay Drawings, Paintings, Photography & Videography Contests in colleges and schools in the memory of brave hearts and national heroes.

He emphasized concerned departments to prepare in advance for the successful observance of this program. He also emphasized on the wide publicity of this campaign.

The DC informed that Independence Day shall be celebrated under national theme ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ across the district as per guidelines issued by the Government and expressed immense pride in the successful implementation of various programs as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrita Mohotsav’.

He also voiced confidence that the upcoming “Meri Mati Mera Desh” campaign will be equally successful, showcasing the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
