DC Poonch seeks cooperation of religious heads for eradication of drug abuse

District Development Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary today chaired a meeting with officers, law enforcement authorities, and religious heads to discuss measures to control drug abuse in the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, ATRO Poonch, Basharat Mehmood, Tehsildar (Hqr.), Jhangir Hussain, Dysp, DAR, M. Shafiq, Imam Markazi Jama Masjid Poonch, Farooq Ahmed Mishabi, President of DGPC Poonch, Narinder Singh, President SDS Poonch, Khetar Pal Sharma, President Church Poonch, President Anjuman e Jafria, Intazaar Hussin, Advocate, Iftkar Bazmi, Advocate, Bakshi Gulshan Kumar, Transporter and their president, Naib Sarpanch Ajote, Sunil Sharma and the religious heads and prominent citizens.

During the meeting, Dysp DAR briefed the Deputy Commissioner about the incidence of drug addiction in the district and the number of cases reported.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed concern over the loss of public life due to drivers consuming alcohol or drugs while driving. He advised the Union of Transporters/ Bus-stand to recommend cancellation of the licenses of delinquent drivers and directed ARTO to initiate strict action against those found drinking or consuming drugs while driving.

The religious heads and prominent citizens present at the meeting gave valuable suggestions to strengthen drug control measures in the district. They assured that regular religious congregations will be extensively used for creating awareness about drug abuse among youth.

The Deputy Commissioner vowed not to compromise on law and order in the district in a strong message to all violators. The administration will take all necessary steps to ensure that the peace and security of the people of Poonch are safeguarded.

The President of DGPC Poonch, Narinder Singh, and the President of SDS Khetar Pal Sharma assured that they will nominate the committees of youth at the village and town levels to collect information about perpetrators of drug abuse and addicted persons.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the suggestions put forward by the participants and assured them of all possible support from the administration in their efforts to control drug abuse in the district.
