The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today convened a meeting of the District Management Committee (DMC) to review promotion and formation of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) scheme in the district.
At the outset, the meeting reviewed the progress of FPOs sanctioned in block Lar and Sherpathri and future course of action of newly approved FPOs.
DDM NABARD, who is also the Member Secretary of DMC, appraised the chair about support and monitoring of the FPOs by NABARD. He also highlighted the salient features of the scheme besides broad service and activities to be undertaken by the FPOs.
The DC instructed all line departments to have an all-inclusive and holistic approach for the farming community to enhance their income by having successful FPOs in the district with forward and backward linkages.
He said that all the stakeholders must come together for the successful implementation of FPOs in the district.
He directed the concerned officers to identify and handhold the FPOs in various other crops and products to tap the full potential of agriculture and allied sectors.
On the occasion, members of FPOs raised several issues like delay in subsidy component, awareness and establishment of cold storage chain in the district.
The DC directed the concerned departments to carry out a survey and feasibility for establishing cold storage in the district besides capacity building programmes shall be organized for all the members of FPOs.
The meeting was also informed that Farmer Field School is established in Lar Block where farmers are given training regarding latest agriculture management practices.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer, Irfan Giri; DDM, NABARD; District Animal Husbandry Officer and other members of the Committee.
