In order to promote health and nutrition, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad Wednesday flagged-off a Walkathon from Mini Secretariat Bandipora as part of the ‘Eat Right Initiative India’ campaign and celebrating year 2023 as ‘International Year of Millets’.
The Walkathon, organised by Food Safety department Bandipora witnessed participation of hundreds of students, besides officials and citizens.
The walkathon was organised to raise awareness about the importance of adopting a balanced and nutritious diet, with special emphasis on millets, a highly nutritious grain that plays a vital role in food security and nutrition.
Addressing the participants, the DC highlighted the significance of the ‘Eat Right Initiative India’ and the importance of millets in our daily diets. He encouraged students to promote healthier eating habits. He said that by celebrating the ‘International Year of Millets 2023’, they are also shedding light on the sustainable and nutritious benefits of millets.
On the occasion, a Yoga Session was also held. The event not only encouraged physical activity but also shared responsibility for health and nutrition.
The DC urged everyone to incorporate millets into their diets, thereby promoting both personal well-being and sustainable agriculture.
The event was attended by ADC Umar Shafi Pandit, Designated Food Safety Officer Zahoor Ahmad, besides other concerned officers.
