DC Bandipora chairs MD-DLTFC meeting

In order to tackle the issue of illegal extraction of minerals, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad Monday chaired a meeting of the Multi-Departmental District Level Task Force Cell (MD-DLTFC), here.

The meeting threadbare discussed the effective strategies and implement measures to curb illegal activities while ensuring the sustainable extraction of minor minerals. Additionally, the meeting also reviewed the revision of rates pertaining to the district.

The meeting discussed challenges posed by illegal mining operations in the district and the DC emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to combat illegal mining, ensuring the preservation of natural resources and the environment.

He underlined the significance of strict enforcement and coordination among the concerned departments. He also stressed the importance of taking immediate action to prevent further damage and preserve the fragile ecosystem of the district.

Dr Owais, on the occasion, directed the concerned officers to adopt the ‘Zero Tolerance’ approach for illegal mining in all three sub divisions of the district. He said that the culprits involved in illegal mining activities will be booked according to the relevant acts.

Mineral Officer Kashmir, Khrusheed Ahmad, on the occasion, informed that a committee comprising representatives from relevant departments, including the Revenue, Geology and Mining, Police, Forest and Environment already stands formed in this regard. The committee will be responsible for formulating a comprehensive plan of action to combat illegal extraction of minor minerals and enforce the revised rates effectively.

The meeting also focused on the revision of rates for minor minerals in the district. The DC emphasized the need for a fair and transparent mechanism that takes into account the interests of all stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by Nodal Officer Coordination Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, ACR Bandipora Shabir Ahmad, JD Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Mineral Officer Kashmir, District Mineral Officer, SHO Bandipora besides other concerned Officers.
