The central government recently announced that the trials of home grown Direct to Mobile technology , developed by Saankhya Labs and IIT Kanpur will be held in 19 cities soon.
This technology will enable smartphone users to watch Videos directly without having an internet connection.
“A white paper was released on D2M broadcasting by IIT Kanpur in last year June. This was done in collaboration with Prasar Bharti and Telecommunications Development Society,” said an official on explaining about the technology.
In a letter in August 2023, the ministry of communication categorised it’s use cases such as content delivery education and disseminating information in crisis or emergency situation.
