Cyclone Biparjoy Brings Heavy Rains and Turbulent Seas to Gujarat’s Aravalli District

On Tuesday, Cyclone Biparjoy brought heavy rains to various areas of Gujarat’s Aravalli district. The downpour resulted in flooded roads, making travel difficult for people. Additionally, the sea remained turbulent, with powerful tidal waves crashing onto the shores.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the implementation of an action plan to address potential medical and health emergencies. This statement followed his assessment of the preparatory measures taken by the Central government and the Gujarat administration in response to Cyclone ‘Biparjoy.’

According to Manorama Mohanty, the Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the wind speed in Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Kachchh districts is expected to reach 65-75 kmph tomorrow. On June 15th, the wind speed in Dwarka, Jamnagar, Kachchh, and Morbi districts could reach 125-135 kmph, with gusts up to 150 kmph. Mohanty also cautioned about the potential for extensive damage.

She further explained that the extremely severe cyclonic storm weakened into a very severe cyclonic storm around 11:30 pm the previous night. Its movement, predominantly north-northwesterly, is expected to continue until the morning of the 14th, after which it will shift to a north-northeastward direction. The cyclone is projected to make landfall near Mandvi and Jakkau ports in Gujarat, potentially affecting Karachi, Pakistan.

Biparjoy rapidly transformed from a depression in the Arabian Sea into a severe cyclonic storm, making it one of the most enduring cyclones to impact India in recent decades.
