IPL 2023: MS Dhoni had a short stay at the crease, but his nine-ball 20 became the difference between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023 clash on Wednesday.

The ‘Captain Cool’ batted at a strike rate of 222.22. While his fans want to see batting up the oder, Dhoni’s knee is hampering his mobility. The 41-year-old was seen hobbling between the wickets, understands his limitations and has made himself available to bat in the death overs.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming said that Dhoni is training in a certain way as he knows he cannot bat in such a condition for a long time. Dhoni has been concentrating on the last three overs as he is nursing a knee injury.

IPL 2023: He’s (Dhoni) just training a certain way,” Fleming said in the post-match press conference. “He knows he’s not going to bat for a long time, and we had a lot of batting ahead. So, he has really concentrated on the last three overs. [He] wasn’t as mobile between the wickets today, but he pushed pretty hard.

“So, he has concentrated on pretty strong hitting practice, and you can see the benefits of that. He is just comfortable being able to play around the ground. We know how good a hitter of the ball he is, and his access in certain areas is still very strong. So that cameo again at the end was valuable in a hard-fought 20 overs.”

Dhoni has scored 96 runs off just 47 balls this season, hitting a six in every 4.7 balls. Among players who have faced 40 balls in IPL 2023, nobody has a better strike rate than Dhoni (204.25). Dhoni’s CSK beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs to sit in second place in the standings with 15 points.
