Police in Baramulla have intensified their crackdown on illegal mining. In the first five months of 2024, authorities registered 129 cases and arrested 210 individuals involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
During this period, police seized 210 vehicles used for transporting these minerals. The seized vehicles include 91 tippers, 113 tractors, and 6 excavators. These operations took place across various parts of the district.
The Baramulla Police, in collaboration with the Mineral Department, have imposed fines amounting to lakhs for illegal mineral extraction and transportation. This joint effort aims to curb the unauthorized exploitation of mineral resources, which has significant adverse effects on public health, the environment, and government revenue.
Police officials emphasized their commitment to taking strict action against violators. Many offenders exploit night hours to carry out their illegal activities. Such actions pose a threat to the health of the community, degrade the ecology, and result in financial losses for the government.
Community members are urged to assist the authorities by reporting any illegal mining activities in their vicinity. Public cooperation is vital for effectively combating these unlawful practices.
The crackdown reflects the authorities’ determination to safeguard the region’s natural resources and ensure adherence to legal mining practices. By continuing these efforts, the Baramulla Police and the Mineral Department aim to protect the district’s ecological balance and public well-being.
The police pledge to maintain vigilance and carry out more operations to deter illegal mining activities. This initiative underscores the importance of law enforcement and community involvement in preserving the environment and upholding the law.
