The Administrative Secretary Cooperative Department, Ravinder Kumar, chaired a meeting to review the distribution of fruits and vegetables by the Cooperative Department at the Civil Secretariat, Leh.
In the meeting, the Additional Registrar, Cooperatives, Moses Kunzang informed that almost 100 tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables have been distributed by the department within 3 weeks in both Leh and Kargil districts. Further, he shared that consignments of fruits/vegetables have been sent to most of the subdivision in Ladakh and rest will be covered in the coming days.
The department in collaboration with the IAF has been airlifting fruits and vegetables since February 2, 2023. It is pertinent to mention that to ensure these are provided to the public at affordable rates, in the winter season the Cooperative department is supplying fruits/vegetables at Rs 50 per kg through its Cooperative societies.
The Deputy Registrar, Cooperatives, Dr. Mohd Abbas apprised the meeting that 48 metric tonnes in district Leh and 53 metric tonnes in district Kargil have been distributed so far.
The Administrative Secretary also held discussions on price monitoring of vegetables and fruits. It was observed that most of the items were being sold below Rs. 200 per kg in the market. He directed both districts through respective Deputy Commissioners to conduct checks on the market for any exorbitant rates being charged.
Further on weather conditions remaining clear the quantity of the consignments being airlifted to Ladakh will also be increased in the coming days for the convenience of the public, he added.
