Cooks working in government schools under various schemes assembled peacefully at Chinar Park, Handwara, today under the leadership of UT president Female wing JK teachers forum and Vice president National movement for old pension. The peaceful protest aimed to highlight their grievances regarding non-payment of salaries as per the Minimum Wages Act.

The workers, who are integral to the smooth functioning of schools, voiced their frustration over being denied fair wages despite repeated appeals to the authorities. They called on the Lieutenant Governor’s administration, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, and Education Minister Sakeena Itoo to address the issue without further delay.

Speaking at the event, Maymoona Khan stated, “These workers are the backbone of our schools, ensuring that children receive essential services. It is disheartening to see them being denied their rightful dues. We appeal to the authorities to uphold their rights and provide them with justice.”

The peaceful gathering concluded with a strong demand for immediate intervention to ensure compliance with the Minimum Wages Act and to alleviate the financial hardships faced by these workers.
