Cold Wave Grips Kashmir, Marginal Night Temp Improvement Offers Little Relief

The Kashmir Valley continues to reel under freezing temperatures, with the Meteorological Centre Srinagar predicting no significant change in weather conditions until December 26.

Srinagar recorded a slight improvement in the minimum temperature on Wednesday night at minus 4.5°C, up from minus 5.3°C the previous night, but still 2.5°C below normal for this time of year.Pahalgam, the coldest spot in the valley, saw a marginal rise in temperature, recording minus 5.8°C compared to minus 6.8°C on Tuesday. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded minus 5.0°C, slightly warmer than the previous night’s minus 6.0°C but still 2.7°C below normal. Kokernag experienced a sharp drop in temperature, registering minus 2.8°C, down from minus 5.7°C the previous night, and 0.7°C below normal. Gulmarg, the famed ski resort, saw its minimum temperature rise to minus 5.0°C, aligning with the average for the region.

Kupwara recorded a further dip to minus 4.4°C from minus 5.6°C on Tuesday, 1.7°C below normal for the border district.
