Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official inauguration of the Z-Morh Tunnel, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah carried out a thorough inspection of the preparations at the project site in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district, on Saturday.
Joined by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali, the Chief Minister was briefed by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on the extensive arrangements for the inauguration of the 6.4 km tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway.
CM Omar Abdullah inspected the tunnel’s tubes and spoke with the engineers and workers responsible for the project’s construction, commending their efforts in completing this crucial infrastructure.
He also visited the location where PM Modi will address the public and formally dedicate the project to the nation. Reflecting on the region’s tourism potential, CM Omar reaffirmed his goal of making Ganderbal a leading destination for winter sports.
He highlighted that the Z-Morh Tunnel would not only provide year-round access to Sonamarg but also support the development of Gulmarg as a skiing and winter sports hub, opening up new opportunities for tourism and economic growth.
The Z-Morh Tunnel marks a major achievement in improving connectivity between Srinagar and Leh, ensuring reliable access to Sonamarg throughout the year and boosting the region’s economic and tourism potential.
