Cloudburst in Himachal: An official said seven people were killed when a cloudburst slammed a village in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan.The event occurred late Sunday night in Jadon village. Six individuals were rescued, according to Solan Divisional Commissioner Manmohan Sharma.
The cloudburst occurred as torrential rain continued to fall in Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring Uttarakhand in the previous 24 hours, causing landslides, washing away bridges, forcing the closure of educational institutions, and raising river flood levels.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that all schools and colleges in the state would be shut till August 14 (Monday) due to the incessant rains.
According to the state emergency operations centre, 621 highways are currently stopped for vehicular traffic, with a maximum of 236 in Mandi, 59 in Shimla, and 40 in Bilaspur district. The Shimla-Kalka National Highway, which connects Shimla and Chandigarh, has been plagued by landslides for the past two weeks, according to officials.
Rains and landslides have wreaked havoc on crops, rich land, and public and private structures throughout Hamirpur. The district administration has cautioned residents not to venture out and to stay away from the Beas River’s bank and nullahs.
Since the monsoon began in Himachal Pradesh on June 24, the state has sustained losses totaling Rs 7,020 crore, with 257 persons killed in rain-related incidents and traffic accidents, according to the emergency operations centre.
