Beijing, June 13: Amid rising tensions in West Asia following Israeli military strikes on Iranian soil, China has voiced strong concern, calling for calm and warning against further escalation. The Chinese government said it is “closely monitoring” the developments and emphasized that continued conflict could have grave consequences for the region and beyond.
A spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous, and stressed that any actions violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations are unacceptable.
“China opposes any unilateral steps that increase regional instability and widen conflict,” the spokesperson said. “The recent flare-up serves no one’s interest. We urge all parties involved to prioritize peace and stability.”
The Chinese statement comes after Israel launched what it termed a targeted military operation inside Iran, resulting in significant casualties, including the deaths of top Iranian military officials. Iran has since responded with limited drone retaliation, raising fears of a wider regional conflict that could disrupt international peace and energy supply chains.
Calling for restraint, China urged all sides to resolve differences through dialogue and diplomacy. It reiterated its readiness to play a “constructive role” in reducing tensions and facilitating communication between conflicting parties.
“Dialogue, not confrontation, is the only viable path forward,” China emphasized.
The statement reflects China’s growing diplomatic interest in the Middle East and its balanced approach to international disputes. China maintains strong economic and energy ties with countries across the region and has positioned itself as a mediator in past conflicts.
As global powers assess the risk of further escalation, China’s call for de-escalation adds to international pressure for a peaceful resolution. Countries across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East have called emergency consultations, with the United Nations expected to convene a special session soon.
The world now waits to see if diplomatic efforts can prevent the conflict from spiraling further—while humanitarian concerns and civilian safety remain at the forefront.
