A new report by an Australian think tank indicates that India has been making significant strides in critical technologies, which are crucial for the country’s growth and development in the rapidly evolving global economy. However, it is China that is way ahead of the West when it comes to the crucial tech sector.
The Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) is an independent, non-partisan think tank that focuses on defence and strategic policy issues. ASPI’s Critical Technology Tracker is a new tool that analyzes the global competition for critical technologies that are vital for national security and economic competitiveness. The report raises concern that western democracies have been losing the global technological competition, “including the race for scientific and research breakthroughs, and the ability to retain global talent—crucial ingredients that underpin the development and control of the world’s most important technologies, including those that don’t yet exist.”
The report also highlights India’s progress in crucial areas such as 5G technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and other cutting-edge technologies such as quantum computing, cybersecurity, and space technology.
