ChatGPT now operational after hours of outage, AI chatbot was down for the second time this month

ChatGPT was down for several hours early on Tuesday. The outage went on for almost two and a half hours. OpenAI confirmed that “ChatGPT experienced an elevated error rate from 11.20AM PT to 1.55PM PT”. In India, the outage began at 11.50PM on Monday night to 2.25AM on Tuesday morning. The outage has now been fixed. At the time of writing the story, the API, ChatGPT, Labs, and Playgrounds were all operational and running. This is for the second time that the AI chatbot was down this month. ChatGPT faced another outage earlier this month on June 4.

As per reports, ChatGPT was offline around 11.50PM on Monday. OpenAI began their investigation approximately thirty minutes later. The service was restored by 2.25AM this morning. During the outage, users encountered either no response or an error message indicating an issue with generating a response when trying to use ChatGPT. The issue affected several users worldwide.

OpenAI also shared a statement with Tom Guide explaining what caused the outage. The ChatGPT-maker said that the outage was due to “an unexpected surge in traffic and demand, which led to system overloads”.
