On Wednesday, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Jammu and Kashmir Police submitted a charge-sheet in a NIA court in Kulgam against five youths who are believed to have been in contact with Raqeeb-Ul-Lah, a militant based in Pakistan. The youths have been charged with carrying arms and waging war against the state.
The five individuals charged by the SIU of Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly being in touch with a Pakistan-based militant and engaging in activities against the state have been identified as Aaqib Hussain Nanda, Gowhar Manzoor Bhat, Aasif Lateef Naik, Afloq Yousuf Digoo, and Umer Hussain Dar. All of them hail from Pulwama district.
According to a police spokesperson, the five individuals charged with engaging in activities against the state were allegedly part of a conspiracy planned by an active terrorist belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba, Raqeeb-Ul-Lah, who is a resident of Pakistan, and Uzair Ashraf, who has since been killed.
As per reports, Bhat and Nanda were apprehended by a joint team of the police, the Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force at a checkpoint in Gulabtang-Keller located in Shopian district last year. Following the arrest, incriminating materials, arms, ammunition, and cash were seized. During the course of the investigation, three additional militant associates were arrested. The investigation also revealed the involvement of Uzair Ashraf, who has since been killed.
