Chardham Yatra at hold: The Chardham Yatra was halted for two days on Monday due to landslides that crossed the national highways leading to the shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Gangotri, officials said.

Heavy rains drenched the Himalayan state, causing house collapses and landslides, prompting Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to convene a meeting with senior authorities to assess the situation.

The pilgrimage to Chardham (Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath) has been halted for two days due to rainfall and landslides that have blocked main highways, officials said.

The Rishikesh-Chamba National Highway was closed due to a landslip near Kunjapuri Bagardhar in Tehri, and heavy vehicle traffic was halted at Sakhnidhar on the Rishikesh-Devprayag-Srinagar National Highways. A total of 1,169 dwellings and a substantial area of agricultural land have been destroyed.

Heavy rains have been declared a red alert in six districts, including Dehradun and Nainital, by the meteorological department. The hill state has been severely impacted by the ongoing monsoon rain, which has resulted in at least 60 deaths and the disappearance of 17 persons.
