Maa Brahmcharini: Significance
In Navratri celebrations, the Goddess of Penance, Mata Brahmacharini, is honoured on the second day.
She is holding a rosary in one hand and a kamandal in the other while wearing a white saree. It is claimed that Brahmacharini Mata bestows wisdom and understanding upon her devotees. The deity called Brahmcharini Maa, who performs tapasya, or penance. Devi Tapasvini and Devi Yogni are other names for Goddess Brahmcharini.

Those with mangal dosha in their kundli, according to the astrological section, had to fast on this day and worship Maa Brahmcharini with utmost devotion. It is thought that Maa Brahmcharini is the great giver who grants her devotees the ability to realise their wishes.
Maa Brahmacharini: Story
Hindu texts state that Maa Parvati was born as the daughter of Himalaya and underwent severe penance before marrying Lord Shiva. She lived for a millennium just on fruits and flowers, then for a century exclusively on herbs, and finally for a millennium on nothing but the broken leaves of the bilva Patra plant.
She eventually even stopped consuming bilva leaves and began a stringent penance that involved going thousands of years without food or water. As a result of her severe penance, she eventually got quite weak. When Saptrishi saw her predicament, the gods and goddesses were alarmed and bestowed upon her the blessing that all of her desires would be granted and that she would undoubtedly marry Lord Chandramouli Shiva. Owing to her rigorous penance, Goddess Parvati was given the names Aparna and Brahmcharini.
