New Delhi, March 26: The Central Government has scheduled a meeting with all Members of Parliament (MPs) on Wednesday to discuss the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.

During this session, MPs will receive a one-hour overview of the proposed changes to the Waqf law, from 9:30 a. m. to 10:30 a. m. in Coordination Room No. 5 of the Parliament.

The government aims to explain the details of the bill before it is presented in Parliament, especially due to growing opposition.

The Waqf Amendment Bill has sparked a national debate, with many groups accusing the Central Government of harming the interests of the Muslim community.

Several Muslim organizations, particularly the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, have expressed serious concerns, calling the bill anti-Muslim. They argue that the amendments may lead to poor management of Waqf assets and threaten the community’s ability to manage its charitable funds.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has been vocal in its criticism, announcing planned protests nationwide, including a demonstration in Gardanibagh, Patna on March 26 and another rally in Vijayawada on March 29.

AIMPLB spokesperson, Qasim Rasool Ilyas, condemned the bill as divisive and claimed the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) did not consider the views of opposition and Muslim groups.

After multiple meetings, the Joint Parliamentary Committee submitted its report, which received majority approval from 15 BJP MPs over 11 opposition members.

Despite this, opposition members strongly oppose the bill, raising concerns about its impact on Muslim religious and charitable organizations. As discussions continue, the government faces increasing pressure from various groups and ongoing protests.
