Celebrating 10 Years of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign in Ladakh promoting women’s education across India Gulistan News Tv

Leh, January 22, 2025 (Gulistan News Tv) : A special event was held today to mark the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, a flagship initiative aimed at improving the status of the girl child and promoting women’s education across India. The event, which took place at the cultural academy, brought together key stakeholders,to reflect on the progress made and outline future goals for women’s empowerment in the region.

Hon’ble Chairman/CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson was the chief guest, accompanied by Ms. Shashanka Ala, IAS, Secretary of the UT Ladakh; Santosh Sukhadeve, DC/CEO, LAHDC Leh; Shruti Sinha, SSP Leh; Tsewang Paljor, Dy. Secretary for Culture; A.G. Zargar, ACD Leh; Dr. Kunzes Dolma, Vice President of LBA; Nasreen Maryam, President of Anjuman Imamia Women Wing; Tsewang Chuzin, President of the Women Alliance; Amir Sohail, Social Worker, Special Cell for Women; Captain Jigmet Palmo, Ladakh Women’s Football National Team; Abi Cho Cho Lay, Social Worker; and the staff of directors and anganwadi workers.

Amir Sohail, a social worker, shared alarming data on the status of gender violence and legal awareness in Ladakh. He highlighted the cases of gender-based violence had been registered, many more incidents go unreported due to a lack of legal awareness among women. Sohail stressed the need for increased education on legal rights and domestic violence protections, particularly in remote areas.

Tsewang Chuzin, President of the Ladakh Women’s Alliance, emphasized the role of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in improving female education and fostering gender sensitization since its inception in 2015. She applauded the progress made, noting that the literacy rate for girls in Ladakh has been steadily rising, although there is still work to be done.

During her speech, Ms. Shashanka Ala, IAS, Secretary of the UT Ladakh, spoke about the campaign’s impact on her personally. “This campaign is close to my heart,” she said. “As women, we must not only work for our own empowerment but also teach our children the importance of gender equality.

In his address, CEC Tashi Gyalson reflected on the progress made over the past decade under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative. He emphasized that the program, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has had a far-reaching impact on women’s education and empowerment. “In the last 10 years, we have seen a tremendous shift in how women are perceived in Ladakh. We need to continue these efforts to ensure that women’s safety, security, and rights are protected,” he said.

Furthering the dialogue on women’s rights and empowerment, Gyalson outlined the need for balanced societal growth in Ladakh. “With the changing times, we must create a balance between economic development and social responsibility. We must ensure that women are included in decision-making processes and have access to the same opportunities as men.” (Gulistan News Tv)
