CEC Feroz Khan flags off snowshoe team Ladakh to participate in 3rd Khelo India Winter Games

Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan today flagged off the snowshoe team of Ladakh to participate in the 3rd Khelo India Winter Games to be held in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.

Executive Councilor, RD, Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, Er Punchok Tashi and EC Works, Mubarak Shah Naqvi along with team coach Sajjad Hussain were also present.

While flagging off the team, the CEC said Ladakh has great winter tourism potential and can become an alternative for Gulmarg and Auli.

He said players from Ladakh have great potential, particularly in winter sports like Ice Hockey, Skiing, Snow Boarding etc. and associations should come forward to organize such events in Kargil for which LAHDC, Kargil will always support.

Khan advised the players to give their best and try to accomplish the dream of getting the gold medal which is the dream of every player.

Sajjad Husain, who is also a player of the team, said it is the first team of Ladakh Snowshoe Association led by Shahnawaz Habib Var and Mohd Amin Polo which is representing UT Ladakh in the upcoming Khelo India Winter Games.

He said snowshoeing has great prospects for the players of Ladakh particularly of Kargil and he is sure that the team will win medals in the 3rd Khelo India Winter Games.

Snowshoe running or snowshoeing is a winter sport practiced with snowshoes, which is governed by World Snowshoe Federation (WSSF) founded in 2010. The snowshoe running is part of the Special Olympics and Arctic Winter Games programs.
