Mumbai Police has filed a case against Asit Modi, the producer of the television show “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC),” along with Operation Head Sohail Ramani and Executive Producer Jatin Bajaj. This action was taken in response to a complaint lodged by one of the actors on the show.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 354 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which address assault or criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty. At present, no arrests have been made by the police.
The actor had previously made a complaint against Asit Modi and two other crew members. In an interview Jennifer Mistry, the actor, stated, “He has accused me of engaging in fights with other members of the show while under the influence of alcohol. These fights often escalated and mostly occurred during outdoor shoots. He also accused me of behaving inappropriately with male members of the cast and crew, which created a hostile environment on the sets… The allegations are false, and it appears they were fabricated against me after a significant period of time. He responded to his own committee, the ICC, and sent letters to the collector, DCP, and senior inspector (Powai). I have all the evidence, including recordings, and I will prove everything in court. I am awaiting a response from the police, but there has been no progress in the case so far.”
The Powai Police have recorded the actor’s statement regarding her allegations of sexual harassment against Asit Modi and the two crew members. The police have also stated that they will soon summon Asit Modi to obtain his statement.
Asit Modi has denied the allegations, saying, “We will take legal action as she is trying to defame me and the show. Since we terminated her services, she is making these baseless allegations.”
Sohail and Jatin, the other two accused crew members, have also refuted the allegations. In a statement, they said, “She (the actor) regularly misbehaved with the entire team on the show. When leaving the shoot, she drove her car recklessly at a high speed, showing no regard for people in her way. She even caused damage to the set property. We had to terminate her contract due to her bad behavior and lack of discipline during the shoot. Asit ji was in the USA at the time of this incident. She is now attempting to defame us and the show with baseless allegations. We have already filed our complaint against these baseless allegations with the relevant authorities.”
