On Independence Day, unidentified thieves broke into the apartment of a government doctor residing in a housing society within Ghaziabad’s Shalimar Garden area. They absconded with cash and jewelry worth a substantial amount after forcefully gaining entry through the main door’s locks. The local police have apprehended multiple individuals for questioning and are utilizing CCTV footage from the society to aid in their investigation.

The targeted apartment belongs to Dr. Lalit Mohan Kaushik, a physician associated with the Civil Hospital in Shahdara, Delhi. According to Dr. Kaushik, he and his family had left their residence on Tuesday at approximately 11 am and returned around 9:30 pm on the same day.

Dr. Kaushik narrated, “Upon attempting to unlock the door, my wife was dismayed to discover that both the outer and inner locks had been tampered with. The burglars had thoroughly ransacked our home, focusing their attention on a secure holding about ₹25,000 in cash and various items of jewelry. I promptly contacted the police and lodged an official complaint.”

He further mentioned that he had enlisted the services of workers for a home renovation project spanning the past 15 days.

“These workers had informed us of their unavailability on Tuesday due to Independence Day. Curiously, it seems they were already well-acquainted with the layout of our residence. A police investigation is ongoing. As the workers were absent on Tuesday, my family and I also left the premises during the day. Upon our return, we were shocked to discover the extent of the major theft. I am currently in the process of assessing the value of the stolen jewelry. The police have also secured the CCTV recording device to gather potential leads on the suspects,” Dr. Kaushik explained.

In his complaint, Dr. Kaushik expressed suspicions regarding the involvement of the workers.

The police response to the complaint has resulted in the questioning of several individuals. The exact valuation of the stolen jewelry is pending. A theft FIR has been lodged based on the filed complaint. Additionally, a dedicated team of four officers is diligently working to expedite the resolution of the case, as stated by ACP (Shalimar Garden) Suryabali Maurya.

In a similar recent incident on August 14, thieves targeted the home of a chartered accountant in Shastri Nagar. They managed to escape with cash and jewelry totaling approximately ₹7.5 lakhs. The family in this case had also been away for two days, and the burglary came to light upon their return.
