A day ahead of Republic Day, a bomb blast occurred after an explosive device went off at the Gandhi circle in the Ukhrul district, Manipur, on Wednesday evening.
The blast, which occurred at around 5.30 pm, is suspected to be of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted inside the Gandhi statue platform. The cars parked nearby have reportedly been damaged. As per the sources, the explosion was so loud that it was heard as far as Wino Bazaar, a place which is 2 km away from Gandhi circle.
Injuries or fatalities due to the blast are yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
