Biden administration defends decision to pull out troops from Afghanistan

The Biden administration has defended its decision to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan and has placed blame on former President Donald Trump for creating difficult conditions that “severely constrained” President Biden’s ability to execute a smooth withdrawal from the country.

On Thursday, the White House released a 12-page document explaining the circumstances that led to the US military’s withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, and also shared classified documents with Congressional committees.

The report places much of the blame on the previous Trump administration, saying President Biden was “severely constrained” by former President Trump’s decisions.

“President Biden’s choices for how to execute a withdrawal from Afghanistan were severely constrained by conditions created by his predecessor,” the report said.
