Handwara, April 29, 2025: A person sustained serious injuries today after a bear attack in Trich Nutnussa. The injured was immediately shifted to GMC Handwara, where medical treatment is currently underway. The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and panic among the local population.

In the wake of the incident, residents have appealed to the district administration to provide immediate relief and support to the victim.
They have also made a heartfelt appeal to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor’s administration and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to establish a dedicated office of the Wildlife Department in Handwara or Kupwara. Locals stressed that such an office is urgently needed to ensure a swift response to frequent wildlife-related incidents and to safeguard the lives of people living in vulnerable areas.

The community hopes for quick intervention from the authorities to address the growing concern over human-wildlife conflict in the region.
